It’s been several months since I’ve had the opportunity to capture an image for The I Am Project so I was super thrilled when Amber volunteered to participate! It’s really easy (and I mean, REALLY) to focus on the negatives of army life. The long hours, even longer separations, low pay (you know I like to keep it real) and feeling like your family will always come second to your husband’s job.
One of the things I love most about this project is that it isn’t contrived. The ladies I photograph choose their own statement and it comes from a very real (and often vulnerable) part of them. When Amber told me her word, I sort of realized I’d been throwing myself a little pity party. Her good attitude was just the kick in the pants I needed. Amber and her hubby, Kyle just welcomed their first baby today so it’s not hard to see why she’s feeling blessed.
We took just a few minutes during her ordering appointment to step out into her backyard and shoot a few frames. If you are an active duty army wife in the Fort Bragg area and are interested in participating in The I Am Project, please shoot me an email!
